Worked All States

Worked All States (WAS) is an ARRL award for making confirmed contacts with all 50 US states. Hamtrax tracks which states you've worked and shows your progress at a glance.

Viewing Your WAS Progress​

  1. Open the Profile tab.
  2. Tap the WAS progress badge, or navigate to Awards > WAS.
  3. You'll see your progress bar, earned/needed counts, and a searchable grid of all 50 US states.

What You'll See​

The WAS detail screen shows:

  • Progress bar -- A visual bar showing your percentage toward all 50 states, color-coded by progress level.
  • Earned / Needed counts -- A summary showing how many states you've confirmed and how many remain.
  • Searchable state grid -- All 50 US states displayed in a grid. Earned states appear first with a checkmark badge; needed states are dimmed with a dashed border. Use the search field to quickly find a specific state.

Hamtrax tracks WAS in four mode variants: Mixed, Phone, CW, and Digital. Each variant is tracked independently as a separate award on your profile.

How States Are Determined​

Hamtrax determines the US state for each contact using the station's location data, grid square, or state field from your QSO record. For imported logs, the state is typically included in the ADIF STATE field.

If a QSO is missing state information, it won't count toward WAS progress. You can add or correct the state by editing the QSO in your logbook.

Chasing Your Last Few States​

The hardest part of WAS is often tracking down those final states. Here are a few strategies:

  • Use the search field in the state grid to check which states you still need.
  • Browse the Activity tab and filter spots by US stations -- you may spot an operator in a state you need.
  • During contest weekends, many rare states become active -- a great opportunity to fill in missing states.

Hamtrax counts states as "worked" based on QSOs in your logbook. The official WAS award requires confirmed contacts via Logbook of the World or QSL cards.
