Nets

Nets are scheduled, organized on-air gatherings where operators check in on a specific frequency at a set time. They're a great way to practice your skills, meet other operators, and stay connected with the ham radio community. Hamtrax helps you discover nets, see what's active right now, and find nets that fit your schedule.

Browsing Nets

  1. Open the Activity tab and select Nets from the activity mode dropdown.
  2. Active and upcoming nets appear in the feed. Currently active nets are highlighted.
  3. Tap any net to open the Net Detail popup.

Net Details

Each net listing includes:

  • Net name -- The name of the net (e.g., "OMISS Net," "SKYWARN Net")
  • Frequency -- Where the net meets (e.g., 7.185 MHz, 146.940 MHz)
  • Mode -- SSB, CW, FM, DMR, or other modes
  • Schedule -- Day(s) of the week and time (in UTC)
  • Status -- Whether the net is currently active, upcoming, or past
  • Check-ins -- How many operators have checked into the current session
tip

If you're new to nets, start with a casual ragchew net or a newcomer-friendly net. Listen for a while before checking in to get a feel for the format and the net control operator's cadence.

Filtering Nets

Tap the Filter button to find nets that match your interests:

  • Frequency/Band -- Show only nets on specific frequencies or bands
  • Mode -- Filter by operating mode
  • Day of week -- Find nets that run on days you're available

Active vs. Scheduled Nets

Hamtrax distinguishes between nets that are active right now and those that are scheduled for later. Active nets show a live indicator and may include real-time check-in counts, so you can see how busy the net is before jumping in.

info

Net schedules follow recurring patterns (e.g., "Every Tuesday at 0100 UTC"). Hamtrax calculates the next occurrence automatically based on the net's schedule data.

Viewing Past Sessions

Tap a net to see its history, including past sessions and check-in logs. This is useful for seeing how active a net typically is and whether it's worth adding to your routine.
