Worked All States

Worked All States (WAS) is an ARRL award for making confirmed contacts with all 50 US states. Hamtrax tracks which states you've worked and shows your progress on an interactive map -- so you can see at a glance where you still need to make contacts.

Viewing Your WAS Progress

  1. Open the Profile tab.
  2. Tap the WAS progress ring, or navigate to Awards > WAS.
  3. You'll see a map of the US with worked states highlighted, plus your total count.

What You'll See

The WAS screen includes:

  • State map -- States you've worked are highlighted. States you still need are dimmed, making it easy to spot your gaps.
  • Progress count -- Your total out of 50 (for example, 38/50).
  • Band breakdown -- See which states you've worked on each band. Useful for chasing band-specific WAS endorsements.
  • Mode breakdown -- Filter by Mixed, Phone, CW, or Digital to track each mode independently.
  • State list -- A sortable list of all 50 states showing your status for each one.
tip

Tap a state on the map or in the list to see the QSOs you've made with stations in that state, including date, band, mode, and callsign.

How States Are Determined

Hamtrax determines the US state for each contact using the station's location data, grid square, or state field from your QSO record. For imported logs, the state is typically included in the ADIF STATE field.

info

If a QSO is missing state information, it won't count toward WAS progress. You can add or correct the state by editing the QSO in your logbook.

Chasing Your Last Few States

The hardest part of WAS is often tracking down those final states. Here are a few strategies:

  • Check the state list filtered to "Needed" to see exactly which states are missing.
  • Browse the Activity tab and filter spots by US stations -- you may spot an operator in a state you need.
  • During contest weekends, many rare states become active. Keep an eye on the DX Cluster for state-side spots.
warning

Hamtrax counts states as "worked" based on QSOs in your logbook. The official WAS award requires confirmed contacts via Logbook of the World or QSL cards.
