Worked All Zones
Worked All Zones (WAZ) is a CQ Magazine award for making confirmed contacts in all 40 CQ zones -- geographic regions that divide the entire world. Hamtrax tracks which zones you've worked and displays your progress on a zone map.
Viewing Your WAZ Progress
- Open the Profile tab.
- Tap the WAZ progress ring, or navigate to Awards > WAZ.
- You'll see a world map with CQ zones highlighted based on your progress.

What You'll See
The WAZ screen shows:
- Zone map -- A world map divided into 40 CQ zones. Zones you've worked are highlighted; zones you still need are dimmed.
- Progress count -- Your total out of 40 (for example, 27/40).
- Band breakdown -- See which zones you've worked on each band. The official WAZ award offers single-band endorsements, so this helps you track those separately.
- Mode breakdown -- Filter by Mixed, Phone, CW, or Digital for mode-specific tracking.
- Zone list -- All 40 zones listed with their status and the QSOs that count toward each one.
Tap a zone on the map or in the list to see every QSO you've logged with a station in that zone.
How Zones Are Determined
Each QSO's CQ zone is determined from the contact's location data or the CQZ field in your logbook. Hamtrax uses standard CQ zone boundaries to resolve zones from grid squares and country data when the zone isn't explicitly provided.
If a QSO is missing CQ zone information, it won't count toward WAZ progress. You can add or correct the zone by editing the QSO in your logbook.
Tips for Chasing Rare Zones
Some CQ zones are notoriously difficult to work, especially zones in remote or sparsely populated regions. A few strategies:
- Zones 1, 2, and 39 (Arctic and Antarctic regions) are among the rarest. Watch for DXpeditions to these areas.
- Check propagation -- Use the Solar Dashboard in Hamtrax to see when band conditions favor long-path contacts to distant zones.
- Contest weekends often bring rare zones on the air. The CQ WW and CQ WPX contests are especially good opportunities since they use CQ zones as multipliers.
Hamtrax counts zones as "worked" based on QSOs in your logbook. The official WAZ award requires confirmed contacts submitted through CQ Magazine's verification process.
